Young people about to leave school have a big choice to make: uni or work. We presented Royal Navy apprenticeships as an alternative way for them to further their education, out in the big wide world. Recruiting to the same role category in the Royal Marines presented a different brief. To have any chance of making the grade, the people we needed to attract had to relish serious challenges. We targeted our ads at those who followed the likes of Tough Mudder and other popular endurance profiles on Instagram. The headlines took inspiration from fitness brands, while nodding to the unique environments Royal Marines Commandos have to conquer.
